AASD MASS IMMUNIZATION PROGRAM
WILL BEGIN NOVEMBER 9

More than 2,500 Altoona Area School District students, whose parents completed and returned consent forms, will begin receiving the H1N1 flu immunizations very soon.

The schedule for this mass immunization program is as follows:

*Monday, November 9 – Altoona Area Junior High School, McAuliffe Heights-Irving and Juniata.

*Tuesday, November 10 – Altoona Area High School, Washington-Jefferson and Logan.

*Thursday, November 12 – Baker, Wright, Juniata Gap and Kimmel.

*Friday, November 13 – Ebner, Penn-Lincoln and Pleasant Valley.

*The week of November 16 – The Learning Express at Curtin.

Parents should be aware of these procedures:

*Students ten years of age or younger will receive a second dose of vaccine no less than 21 days following their first dose.

*To receive a second dose, students must have received their first immunization during the AASD mass inoculation. Children who received their first dose from their health care provider must return to that physician for a second dose or attend a Blair County community immunization clinic which will be scheduled.

*Students who are absent when immunizations are given at their school must go to a health care provider or a community clinic to receive the vaccine.

*Parents will not be present when their children are vaccinated at school.

Despite the cost and the massive amount of preparation needed for this mass inoculation, Altoona Area School District is pleased to provide its students with this opportunity to stay healthy and maintain excellent attendance records during the school year.

 Wright Elementary School has served the Altoona community since 1971. Our school is composed of a wide range of backgrounds, talents, learning styles, and abilities. Wright Elementary is proud of its history, warmth, and inviting school climate.

Our Vision is to develop a program that promotes the academic and social success of the “whole child.” As a school community, we will work together to meet the diverse needs of our learners, produce well-rounded citizens, and life-long learners.

Technology is infused into the curriculum through integrated activities both in the computer labs and with the use of the latest technology tools. New is the 1 to 1 laptop initiative that provides laptops to all our students in grades 3 through 6. This is a welcome addition to our state of the art technology integration program at Wright. Promethean boards, activslates, and activotes will also be in every grade level classroom K-6 to enhance our technology integration.

Our mission is to provide a safe, nurturing, and caring learning environment that embraces the academic challenges set by the Pennsyslvania State Standards and Assessments. Through integration of technology, commitment to the curriculum, differentiated instruction, Response to Intervention, and partnership with families and community members, we will provide the pathway for all children to develop their talents to be successful at the highest level as a ”whole child.”
